The *real* effects of Pacifism

"I'd like to teach the world to sing ... in perfect harmony ... " blah blah blah ...
"I'd like to buy the world a coke ... and watch them figure out a way to turn it into an explosive!"

Woah ... wait ... hmmm ... need to think that last part ... that was not in the script for the old Coke commercial, was it? Yeah ... it was supposed to be about peace and harmony and we're all smoking a big ol' joint and sippin' some coke (perhaps snortin' a little too, right?) ... because peace and love and all that can triumph over war and evil guys and all that, right?

That was just the commercialized version of the pacifist mantra ... that if the overwhelming majority of the worlds' people just took on this view and summarily dismissed war and all that ... then there would be peace.

Seems to me like the situation in Lebanon is a shining example of just how totally full of garbage that whole ideology is. The news media would have you believe that this place was the pluralistic paradise of Christians, Jews, Muslims and others all living in this euphoric tranquility.

The truth was, and is, a little different.

What you ended up with is a situation where the really bad guys were able to commandeer a large chunk of the country in preparation for their ruthless plans, but also simply take over the governance of that nation through threats and intimidation. I scratched my head at the actions of the non-Hezbollah types ... totally unwilling to lay any of the blame at the feet of Hezbollah.

I forgot my own instincts ... when somebody that should have a half a clue acts totally irrationally, something absolutely critical is missing from the story. When the clown that is supposed to be the political leader (or whatever they call it) of that country is praising Hezbollah's efforts, that is just lunatic. However, if you think it through it makes perfect sense ... the so-called Lebanon military or law enforcement has no capability to do anything to thwart the terrorists ... the terrorists own the entire southern half of the country and play a significant role throughout ... piece together the puzzle and in Lebanon either your with the terrorists, or you (and your whole family) is dead.

Admittedly, I did not piece together the puzzle until I actually heard from several different folks through various channels about how life *really* is in Lebanon.

So what does this have to do with Pacifism (the more-or-less religion)? Simply that the Lebanon situation shows how it is total pretense ... evil and war still happen all around it, and in fact the concept actually enables a much smaller more ruthless force to create a huge amount of havoc, particularly against a rival that chooses to subdue its forces to avoid or minimize casualties among the "innocents".

By the way ... the terrorists are extremely aware of the impact of the news story about these "poor folks caught in the crossfire" amongst a pacifist public; and the terrorists and their willing accomplices in the media play it to the hilt ... carrying around dolls and toy mickey mouse dolls to drop on the site of a bombing for impact ... carrying around the dead child (now thought to have been dug up from elsewhere specifically for the occasion) to parade in front of camaras, photo ops with gullible reporters, even when the reporters are specifically denied access to information that they know looks bad for the terrorists (like missile launchers in private houses, etc)

So anyway ... the Lebanon situation is a shining example of the complete failure of the foundation of Pacifism, and teaches us that we cannot allow these lunatics to rule the day.
